Wyoming Upsets No. 11 UNLV
The Wyoming Cowboys rebounded from a tough road loss at TCU to upset the eleventh ranked team in the country, UNLV in Laramie this past weekend. They beat the Runnin' Rebels by a score of 68-66.
The Cowboys pull off the monumental upset of a ranked opponent at home for the first time since 2000. Wyoming boasted four players with double digit scoring days. They were led in scoring by junior Leonard Washington and senior Fancisco (Paco) Cruz with 16 points each. Junior Luke Martinez added 15 points and Adam Waddell dropped 14.
The Pokes continured their defense first mentality by holding the Rebels to a season low 21 percent shooting average from behind the arc. UNLV typically shoots well over 30 percent from three-point land, in fact, they are the eleventh best three-point shooting team in the country.
Wyoming improves to 4-3 in conference play and 18-5 overall. Their next test is a tough one. The Cowboys will travel to one of the hardest places to play in America, The Pit on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
