October School Board Meeting
School District #2 had its monthly meeting this week, and the color guard from Troop 312 kicked things off by leading the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. A short while later Chairman Tim Harding announced the winner of the School District Number Two Teacher of the Year award for 2011. The school board and the attending audience gave a standing ovation as Tammy Noble's name was announced. Tammy Noble is a twenty year veteran of District Number 2 and goes above and beyond to teach children with special needs.
In other news at the meeting the school board voted down a bid to repair the press box located on the practice field at Green River High School. The building was damaged by a fire, and the board had been taking bids to repair the interior damage. Instead of repairing the building, the school board decided to look into what renovations such as adding bathrooms, concessions, and a water source to the building would cost. The repair costs currently sit at around $37,000.
Athletic Director Tom Wilson gave a presentation on the current athletic classifications and where Green River stands in upcoming votes by the Wyoming High School Activities Association. Currently Green River plays in 3A football and 4A for all other sports. Wilson and the board were in agreement that the athletes would benefit more from playing in a single classification, and laid out several potential plans that the WHSAA will vote on later in the year that may, or may not , make that happen. The plans range from variances of the current four class classification system to a series of five class systems.
